  • 10:30am - Training in the Botanical Garden at Museum Hill
  • 11:30am - Lunch on your own
  • 1pm - Meet at the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve, La Cienega
Help us monitor the plants and animals in the Botanical Garden at Museum Hill and Wetland Preserve to learn more about the climate, flora, and fauna. The Santa Fe Botanical Garden, monitors seasonal change in partnership with the National Phenology Network, the Rio Grande Botanical Garden, and the Valle del Oro National Wildlife Refuge. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to collect phenological (seasonal change) observations and other citizen science protocols so that you can participate in monitoring.
 
We will cover the following topics:
1. The importance of citizen science and phenology (the timing of life cycle events in plants and animals)
2. How to use Nature's Notebook to collect phenology information in the field and enter your observations on the Nature's Notebook website
3. Monitoring insects through Southwest Monarch Study, Pond Watch, Bumble Bee Watch, and the Lost Ladybug Project
4. Monitoring Birds through Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology
