Volunteer Training for Monarch Butterfly Monitoring

Location: Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve

Date: July 25, 8:30am-11:30am

Little information has been gathered about monarch butterfly habits as they migrate and breed through northern New Mexico.

This is a training for Citizen Scientists to learn how to recognize adult male and female monarch butterflies,  their eggs, and larval stages, as well as to identify and distinguish between the types of milkweed found at the Preserve.

Recognizing adult monarch flight behavior, nectaring, guarding, and breeding behaviors will be included in the workshop.   Participants will learn documentation procedures on prepared data sheets.  The findings will be submitted to the Southwest Monarch Study.

Limited to 15 participants.
