Sleeping Gardens, Living Habitats

Start your morning with breakfast at Museum Hill Café and join our Director of Education & Interpretation, Christie Collins, for an informal conversation about the winter garden and the important habitats it provides for invertebrates.

Learn how leaves, stems, soil, and garden structures offer vital shelter during colder months, and how thoughtful seasonal practices support biodiversity year-round.

Afterward, take a guided walk through the Santa Fe Botanical Garden to explore its quiet winter landscapes and discover where life waits for spring. Reservations required; garden admission included.

Christie Collins is a naturalist with over 15 years of experience in environmental education, interpretation, and conservation. She serves as Vice Chair of the Global Entomology Coalition, New Mexico Representative for the Four Corners region of the National Association for Interpretation, and New Mexico Representative for NAI’s Interpretive Naturalist Section. Before moving to Santa Fe, Christie worked as a Science Educator at a sea turtle rehabilitation facility and nature center in Miami, Florida, where she led public programs, youth camps, volunteer training, and the renovation of a 9,000-square-foot native plant garden.
